Born- 1932 in Tel-Aviv. Graduate of St. Martin's School of Art, University of London. in 1954 Studied with the sculptor Rudi Lehmann.
Kadishman is an artist of great power who possesses the rare gift of a unified response, both aesthetic and moral, to the historical world. The realities of this historical experience of Israel have surrounded Kadishman, as a man and as an artist, since his birth. But it is his interweaving of life and art, and his ability to see the universal human meaning within particularities of circumstance, that have made Kadishman an exemplary figure for Israel and for the world at large.
In his youth, between 1950 and 1953, Kadishman worked as a shepherd in Kibbutz Ma'ayan Baruch and Kvuzat Yizre'el. This experience with nature, sheep and shepherding had a significant impact on his later artistic work. The first major appearance of sheep in his work was in the 1978 Venice Biennale, where he presented a flock of colored live sheep as living art. In 1995, he began painting portraits of sheep. These instantly-recognizable sheep portraits soon became his artistic trademark.
