Born (1973) in Jerusalem. Studied art at Bezalel academy and in Haifa University.

Jonathan Ofek’s work derives its inspiration from various sources, including Mesopotamian, pre-Colombian, and early Christian art.

his work deals with place and its absence, yearning for a sense of belonging and at the same time, arousing a feeling of detachment, as well as issues of Judaism and Israeliness, existential anxiety and loss, emission and sacrificing.

Ofek's sculptures are nourished by the Hebrew culture: Noah's Ark, Aaron rod, exile, wanderings… his landscapes sculptures are ideal places, unattainable. A place for Ofek is not a realm of serenity but a landscape of solitude, and a reminder of the inter-generational lack of belonging.
