El-Natan was fascinated with the order of the Freemasons and even applied to be added to their ranks (unfortunately, unsuccessfully). He would often insert masonic emblems, insignia and iconography into his paintings and works. In this monumental painting El-Natan envisions the coffin of a mason, complete with tools and hidden massages.
